Coronavirus Action Plan

Young Life Camping for Summer 2021

Please note: This information is subject to change. Updates are coming regularly.

UPDATE FROM 05.19.2021

Good news! The State of Colorado and Chaffee County Public Health are following the CDC’s guidance to relax mask wearing by individuals who are fully vaccinated. At Trail West Lodge, we will follow these same directives for our family guests at camp this summer.

  • Individuals who are fully vaccinated do not need to wear a mask.
  • Children 10 years old and under do not need to wear a mask.
  • Individuals 11 years or older, who are unvaccinated are still encouraged to wear a face covering within indoor spaces where members of different households are present.

In addition, for the health and safety of our guests and staff, we are asking all family campers, staff and volunteers who are 6 years and older to complete one of the following prior to their arrival at Trail West Lodge:

  • received a negative test within a week prior to coming to camp
  • have recovered from a COVID diagnosis
  • been vaccinated against COVID
UPDATE FROM 04.27.2021

We are getting more and more excited about summer with each passing day! As COVID still lingers in our world, we are making preparations for our goal of keeping everyone healthy and keeping camp open for ALL families to experience the best week of their lives at Trail West Lodge! Masks will be required indoors unless you're actively eating at your table in the dining hall or you are in your accommodation with your immediate family. Outdoors, masks may be removed if you are able to maintain social distancing of 6 feet. We will also ask each family to complete a daily screening survey during your stay.

UPDATE FROM 03.29.2021

Great news! Our county has just moved to the "Blue" Level on the State's COVID-19 Dial. This means that we have the opportunity to do larger group gatherings than we were anticipating, making summer look a lot more like previous years! We will still have a few restrictions based on guidelines from our county, state and Young Life, but we are hopeful that these restrictions will allow us to all stay healthy and provide the opportunity for families to attend camp ALL summer long! Please click on the following link to read more about our county and state guidelines.

UPDATE FROM 03.01.2021

We have been working with our local health department and we are set up well to have family camp in a low-risk way this summer.

First, we will be implementing our more vigorous cleaning and sanitizing protocols for communicable disease prevention.

  • Use of multiple electrostatic sprayers by Victory Innovations: a positively charged spray covers the entire surface, including hard to reach areas and kills 99.99% of germs on hard and soft surfaces, including COViD-19
  • disinfecting solution is safe for human contact and approved for everyday use
  • free of chlorine and phosphates
  • Botanical Disinfectant Solution by Bioesque
  • Guest rooms and lodges will be sanitized and sealed prior to your arrival
  • Public high traffic hot spot areas will receive an increased sanitizing routine

Establishing cohorts is a significant piece of the puzzle when planning for groups during this pandemic. Since our guests travel, eat and do activities as a family unit, our cohorts are well established already.

Kids Klub activities will also be grouped in smaller numbers with more consistent staff interaction.

Large group gatherings will likely be our biggest challenge for camp this summer.

  • we will move outdoors whenever we can
  • when indoors, we will seat people by family groups and maximize spacing
  • indoor spaces will not be filled to capacity
  • we have reduced our overall number of guests this summer to help with the group size

Self-administered health screenings will be required daily for all families and staff.

Per current state mandate and Young Life policy, all staff and guests 11 years and older will be required to wear face coverings.

  • indoors except for in your lodge room and while seated at your dining room table
  • outdoors only if distancing cannot be maintained
  • we will monitor State guidance in case this restriction relaxes by the date of you camp week

To best serve our families, we will have a full time Registered Nurse onsite.

UPDATE AS OF 02.15.2021

Trail West Families —

We’re planning for a fun filled summer of family camp knowing that it will definitely look a little different than it has in years past. Over this past year, as we’ve been monitoring the COVID-19 situation our team has been meeting regularly to walk through and prepare for the restrictions that may be still in place this summer. We will keep you updated in the monthly Howdy newsletters with any necessary changes we will have to make as summer approaches, but it is just too soon to tell what restrictions we will be under . We ask you to join us in prayer as we navigate all the possible scenarios and restrictions.

As of February 15, 2021, we want to inform y’all of a few changes to summer 2021 here at Trail West Lodge that we have identified already. Our desire is to keep summer looking as normal as possible but with COVID we are seeing some changes that need to take place. Our focus is to still make this summer the most meaningful family vacation ever for your family.

1. Payment and Cancellation Deadline

This change should be great news to you! Instead of requiring payments to be due on April 1st as in previous years we are pushing back the cancellation date as well as the date for full payments. Full payments will be due 1 month prior to your arrival at camp. In addition, your new cancellation date will also be 1 month prior to your arrival.

For example, if your arrival date to camp is July 18th then your full payment is due on June 18th. If you cancel your week at Trail West Lodge prior to June 18th you will forfeit your $1,000 non-refundable deposit. If you cancel on June 18th or after then you forfeit your entire camp fees. In either situation if we are fully booked for the week and are able to rebook your accommodation we will issue you a full refund except for a $500 cancellation penalty.

Hopefully this new cancellation date and full payment date will allow your family a little more ease about walking into this summer.

2. Airport Shuttle

In order to prioritize the health and safety of every family, we are asking each family to arrive in their own vehicle, either a personal or rental car. We understand this may complicate travel logistics for some, but we believe it to be the safest option.

If your family is currently booked on this airport shuttle, you can receive a full refund of your shuttle fees or credit towards your final balance, whichever you choose. If you are booked on the Trail West shuttle, please review the options below and reply to this email by Thursday, February 18th letting us know what you’d like us to do with your shuttle payments:

Apply the shuttle fees towards your current balance for summer 2021.

Receive a full refund for the shuttle fees. If you choose to receive a refund Brenda will be in contact in the coming days to confirm the credit card to apply this refund towards.

3. Frontier Ranch Visit

We will not be able to visit Frontier Ranch this summer for Club or a swim day. Young Life has made the decision to restrict visitors at all camps this summer in order to limit any unnecessary exposure of campers to larger groups of people. Also, Frontier will be running on a 5 day schedule which will not align with Trail West as they have in the past.

We are still so happy to answer any questions that you may have. Feel free to email Brenda at bsaewert@trailwest.younglife.org and she will get back to you as soon as possible.
